Best Procore alternatives for subcontractors (2026)

Short answer

Procore is built for whole project teams and is priced by annual construction volume, so many trade subcontractors look for something narrower. The closest like-for-like alternative is Autodesk Forma Build. Fieldwire, Knowify and Contractor Foreman are narrower tools with published prices for field work, billing or an all-in-one, and Vorbi (our product) covers takeoff-to-installation for flooring, tile, trim and cabinetry subs.

Procore is one of the most complete construction platforms available. This guide is for specialty contractors deciding whether they need all of it, or a tool shaped around how a sub bids, buys and installs. See also work management systems for subcontractors.

"Limits" are our reading of each vendor's public pages on the date checked, not a test of the software. If a feature isn't listed, ask the vendor.

How to choose

  • Start with your role on the job. GCs need the project record (RFIs, submittals, pay apps). Subs mostly need the money path: takeoff, bid, purchase orders, deliveries and crew progress.
  • Count who needs access. Per-user prices (Autodesk, Fieldwire) look small for one estimator and add up for a whole office and field crew. Company or volume pricing (Procore, Contractor Foreman, Vorbi) behaves differently.
  • Check what happens after the takeoff. List every place a quantity is re-typed: bid sheet, bid document, PO, delivery schedule. The fewer hand-offs, the fewer errors.
  • Ask about rollout. Annual platforms usually include onboarding. Find out who sets up your templates, rates and trade assemblies.
  • Run a live job through it. A demo on your own drawings tells you more than a feature list.

Q&A

Quick answers

What is the best Procore alternative for subcontractors?

It depends on the job you need the software to do. For a Procore-style project platform with a published per-user price, Autodesk Forma Build is the closest match. For field plans, tasks and punch lists, Fieldwire. For progress billing and AIA pay apps with QuickBooks, Knowify. For a flat-priced all-in-one, Contractor Foreman. For flooring, tile, trim and cabinetry subs that need takeoff, bids, supplier ordering and installer tracking in one system, Vorbi (our product).

How much does Procore cost?

Procore does not publish prices. Its pricing page says it charges an upfront annual fee by product, based on your Annual Construction Volume, with unlimited users included (checked 2026-10-18).

Is Procore only for general contractors?

No. Procore says it serves owners, general contractors and specialty contractors, and it has subcontractor tools for estimating, project management, resource planning and project financials. Many subs also use Procore inside their GC's account.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Procore?

Procore doesn't publish prices, so a like-for-like comparison needs a quote. Alternatives that do publish prices: Fieldwire has a free Basic plan and Pro at $39 per user per month billed annually, and Contractor Foreman starts at $49 per month billed annually for one user. Autodesk Forma Build lists $1,400 per user per year (checked 2026-10-18). Compare the total for everyone who needs access, not just the entry price.

Do I need my own system if my GC already uses Procore?

Your GC's Procore project covers the GC's record: RFIs, submittals, drawings and pay apps. Your own back office (takeoffs, bid documents, supplier orders, deliveries and crew progress) still has to live somewhere. That can be your own Procore account or a trade-focused system like Vorbi.
